Er, didn't you just say:
> Unless I'm completely confused,
> cannot any individual simply upload his or her thesis to the internet
I have a difficult time understanding how providing an archive is
precluding someone from publishing his/her thesis. One may as well argue
that a FOSS CMS such as WordPress or MediaWiki inhibits people from
publishing information on the Internet, because it helps them do it
without doing *everything* from scratch.
Must we each run our own Web server? Or shall we each construct our own
private Internet? I certainly wouldn't want to use the public Internet;
that would preclude my self-organization in attempting my goal (i.e. to
use the Internet).
How's that for transgressive? Grand enough for you? ;)
So, it's been nice knowing you all, but I'm off to go build my own
personal Internet. It will have incredible capabilities of
internetworking; unfortunately, I can't invite you to connect to it, as
I wouldn't want to preclude you from making your own.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1,
Gavin
