I was there at last year's Oxcars and it was an amazing night.
I believe it is Simona at conservas (simona levi <info at conservas.tk>)
and other organizers at exgae behind this event. Simona speaks
english. Keep in mind that she's going to be crazy busy these weeks
leading up to the fcforum.
I'll be going to most of the events, but then for me it's just a metro
ride away. I should be able to get discount tickets to the oxcars, if
folks are interested, let me know. Also if you need advice for getting
situated in barna.
i suppose i should also introduce myself, and ask a couple of things
i've been wondering:
I am not a student and am only young at heart(37). I am a part of an
activist ecologist collective (www.canmasdeu.net) in Barcelona, Spain.
As squatters, we question excessive ownership and real estate
speculation, among many other things. I see a link between squatting
and the free culture movement - we should not permit the hoarding of
buildings or land any more than we should permit the hoarding of ideas
or cultural. I've been very interested in free culture since being
inspired by Stallman's "Free Software, Free society" and would like to
get more active in it, and connect the dots between free software,
ecology, wikiculture, transparency, consensus through participation,
linguistic egalitarianism, and alternative and gift economies without
all of the middlers.
Is there an organization in the US like freeculture for non-students?
Is there a database or search engine for Free culture in the US? Are
there some kinds of awards like grammys or emmys or oscars for
creative commons stuff? Where do artists go in the US to promote their
CC art if they are interested in sharing it?
thanks,
Brian Russell
