Since this post wasd published, I discovered that freenode offers a MUCH
nicer webchat interface at webchat.freenode.net. so, if you want to go the
web way, I suggest using that!
Look forward to talking to everybody there.
Best,
Parker

This Monday, August 24, your Students for Free Culture board will be
holding an IRC question & answer session for all chapters. This was
suggested earlier, and we think it's a great idea, and a good
opportunity for everybody to get on the same page before the school year
starts.
So, at 6:00 PM Pacific / 9:00 PM Eastern, we will all be meeting in the
#freeculture room of freenode.
For those of you who need a refresher on what IRC is and how it works,
there's a quick howto after the jump:
First, you can either use a special IRC program or a web portal.
* For Windows, [mIRC][1] and [XChat][2] are popular options.
* for Mac OS there's [Colloquy][3]
* for GNU/Linux [XChat][2] is nice.
* If you don't want to download a program, freenode, the server we
use, has provided a [Java web portal][4].
Next, select a nickname and connect your program at the server
irc.freenode.net, and once you've connected, join the room #freeculture
. If you're using the web portal, you won't have to do anything to
connect to the server, just the room.
If you still have questions, we have a [wiki page which talks all about
IRC][5], or feel free to e-mail me at parkerhiggins [at] gmail.com.
Look forward to seeing all you there!
