We've seemed to have lost steam on the Open University Campaign. Now that
we've all (hopefully) recovered from New Years, I thought I'd try to get the
excitement going again.
If the end goal is to rank schools on the 5 principles of the Wheeler
Declaration (http://wiki.freeculture.org/Open_University_Campaign), then I
think we need to decide on a methodology and clear measures of success.
IMHO, this can best be done through committees dedicated to each of the 5
principles. Let's make them open to all, but I think we should specialize
and set deadlines for the committees so that they can report back to the
larger organization with their guidelines.
As for the methodology, I think letter grades for each principle and a total
letter grade for the school is the best option, but I imagine there will be
disagreement.
Each committee would be tasked, initially, with drafting a one page document
outlining the importance of their criterion and determining what makes an
"A" policy. The next step would be drafting letters/questionnaires to send
to universities. The fact-finding part of this campaign will require a lot
of time so it is important to start this soon.
So, do we have anyone who wants to head up a committee or simply join one?
I'd be happy to work primarily on OA or OCW. What's your passion?
