How is locking the door to one's home when one goes out different from
being locked in a cell for life?
Privacy settings come from the right to privacy and from freedom to
association. DRM comes from an extreme misunderstanding of copyright
as a form of (wannabe) perpetual property.
Privacy settings are local, controlled by the user, and circumventable
in technology and law. DRM isn't.
Privacy settings are similar to passwords, not to DRM.
